Daniel, a college student from Iowa, spent the summer of 1988 as a member of the 24/7 community at the Tracks.

Daniel came back for his trial before Judge Cunningham on January 9, 1989. Lawyer John Coker of Pittsburg defended Daniel Pro-bono. Daniel was sentence to 1 1/2 years probation and a $270 fine. See our February/March newsletter https://www.keepandshare.com/doc29/110324/btl-1989-02-03-pdf-626k

Daniel and a fellow college student friend (name?) were also involved in an act of mercy. Two Marine soldiers on motorcycles racing through the sharp bend in Port Chicago Hwy, beyond Clyde on the way to Pittsburg both crashed. Walking nearby, Daniel and his friend raced to scene and applied first aid as best they could until medical help arrived. One soldier was pronounced dead at the scene, but the other survived trip to hospital. About a month later this soldier also died. Dan and his friend were credited with having saved the one soldier long enough for his family to share in his last days. They were recognized with honor by the family and many soldiers on base.
