2024-04-13 Tens of Thousands of Drones from China and Iran Flood into Ukraine     Recent reports by The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post reveal a significant shift in the landscape of military technology, showcasing how major nations like China and Iran are shaping the warfare tactics in Eastern Europe.

China has emerged as a crucial player, reportedly supplying tens of thousands of drones to Ukraine. These drones, mainly purchased from SZ DJI Technology and other suppliers, play a pivotal role in Ukraine’s strategy to counter Russian forces. This is reported by Moscow Times.

Conversely, Iran has been instrumental in bolstering Russia’s drone capabilities, selling thousands of UAVs for bombardment missions over Ukrainian cities.

Additionally, plans are underway to produce another 6,000 drones under Iranian license in Russia’s special economic zone “Alabuga,” further complicating the aerial dynamics of the conflict.   https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/tens-of-thousands-of-drones-from-china-and-iran-flood-into-ukraine/ar-BB1ly2ut?

2021-05-20 Drones add little to rocket-filled Israel-Palestine skies, but represent growing global threat    Beneath the ongoing collision of Israel’s cutting-edge and costly missile defense systems and imprecise but inexpensive Palestinian-built rockets, Hamas has begun using so-called “kamikaze drones” to try penetrating Israeli defenses another way.    The Israeli government has claimed that its Iron Dome rocket defense system is effectively blocking most incoming rockets that pose a threat to Israel’s cities. Hamas has launched more than 3,000 rockets from Gaza since May 10, but Israeli officials claim most have either been intercepted by Iron Dome’s missile interceptors or did not reach significant targets (landing in unpopulated areas or failing in flight).  https://thebulletin.org/2021/05/drones-add-little-to-rocket-filled-israel-palestine-skies-but-represent-growing-global-threat/#post-heading

2024-08-02 History, genocide and Israel’s war on Gaza: Mehdi Hasan & Benny Morris | Head to Head   This was filmed before the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran on 31 July.    In this episode of Head to Head, Mehdi Hasan challenges prominent Israeli historian Benny Morris on his support for Israel’s war on Gaza, the history around the founding of Israel and the Nakba.

Morris’ book ‘The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem, 1947-1949’ dismantled many of the myths behind the displacement of more than 700,000 Palestinians during that period. His critics, however, say he now justifies many of those crimes.

Hasan and Morris are joined by a panel of three experts:

Diana Buttu – a Palestinian lawyer and former advisor for the PLO

Daniel Levy – a former Israeli peace negotiator and current President of the US/ Middle East Project

Emmanuel Navon – an International Relations lecturer at Tel Aviv University

2024-07-29 Palestine Post: The Latest w/ Khury Peterson-Smith    As we do each Monday, today’s show focuses on the latest from Palestine. We’re joined by Khury Petersen-Smith, Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies.    https://kpfa.org/episode/law-disorder-july-29-2024/

2024-07-05 Palestine Post: Latest News and Developments     This week marks 9 full months of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. As we’ve done just about every Monday since October, we’ll turn back  today to our recurring segment – The Palestine Post, talking about the latest news from Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and the efforts that people are taking from across the world to stop it.   We spend an extended hour (far too long to air on our slot on KPFA’s radio airwaves) in conversation with Nora Barrows-Friedman, a staff writer and editor at The Electronic Intifada, and also a former KPFA host and producer.

We’ll discuss a new report by the Lancet on the projected direct and indirect death toll in Gaza to be in the area of 170,000. Then we’ll talk about Haaretz’ report that Israel used the ‘Hannibal Directive’ on October 7th, which the Electronic Intifada previously reported just a few days after the Al Aqsa Flood and were lambasted for their coverage by mainstream media. We close with a discussion on the potential for ceasefire talks as representatives for Hamas and Israel meet in Cairo and Doha as well as a new commitment from the Presbyterian Church to divest from Israel bonds.   To read the Lancet report: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(24)01169-3/fulltext     https://kpfa.org/episode/law-disorder-july-8-2024/

2024-06-03 A REPORT BACK FROM PEOPLE’S CONFERENCE ON PALESTINE W/ JOURNALIST JESSE STRAUSS     Davey D of Hard Knock Radio recently sat down with activist Jesse, producer of the popular KPFA radio show ‘Law and Disorder,’ to discuss his trip to Detroit for the ‘People’s Conference on Palestine.’ Their conversation covered a wide range of topics, including Jesse’s firsthand experiences, the ongoing devastation in Gaza, and the broader movement for Palestinian freedom.

Davey D touched on various subjects, including narcotics, hard work, and the National Academy. He discussed the Republic and Parliament, the arrest of a child, and relationships with the government. There was also a reference to a playground and information about the Law of Ukraine. The conversation concluded with remarks on being close to national guidelines.

Jesse’s People’s Conference Experience.  Jesse shared his experience from attending the People’s Conference for Palestine, highlighting the devastation in Gaza and the need to end the ongoing genocide. He noted a shift in focus towards the Palestinian movement, with increased attention and conversations about the issue. The conference was marked by solidarity and optimism despite challenges. Jesse emphasized the interconnectedness of the Palestinian movement with other justice movements, advocating for divestment from the war machine and universities.

Israel’s Violence and American Culture Impact.   The conversation explored the impact of Israel’s violence on Americans, especially in areas with large Arab populations like Dearborn, Michigan. Jesse discussed pervasive Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian sentiment in American culture. A significant story from the conference was that of Sana Daka, a former Palestinian political prisoner, and her husband, who spent 36 years in Israeli jails.

Emotional Reception for Sana Daqqah and Vijay Prashad.  Jesse described the emotional reception for Sana Daqqah and her daughter at the conference. He highlighted the keynote speech by Vijay Prashad, who asserted that Israel had lost its ideological war and would eventually lose the military one as well.

Discussing Political Prisoners in Palestine.  The discussion focused on the treatment of political prisoners in Palestine, particularly the use of administrative detention by the Israeli military. Jesse highlighted the inhumane conditions faced by detainees and the need for increased awareness of these issues.

Cultural Erasure, History, and Political Polarization.   Participants discussed the intentional destruction of cultural institutions and histories, particularly in the Palestinian context. They shared personal experiences of cultural erasure and emphasized the importance of teaching history to prevent such erasures. The changing political landscape and growing polarization within certain groups were also discussed.

Disrupting the Narrative: Anti-Zionism, Anti-Semitism, and Safety.   Jesse addressed the false narrative equating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism, arguing for clarity on this issue. He stressed that there is no correlation between being Jewish and the State of Israel, and that Israel does not ensure Jewish safety. Jesse, as an abolitionist and community organizer, drew parallels between the US prison industrial complex and Zionism, advocating for an anti-war and anti-Zionist stance.

War, Protest, and Dissent: Perspectives and Optimism.    The conversation also touched on the impact of war and protest, with Davey D sharing insights on how dissenters are often labeled as unpatriotic. Jesse shared his experiences as a young activist during the post-9/11 anti-war movement, expressing hope and optimism for the movement towards a free Palestine.

The show concluded with opening remarks and keynotes from conference participants Mohammad Nabulsi and Yara Shoufani. https://kpfa.org/page/4/?s=Palestine

Cornel, West

Updated 2024-07-16

2024-04-23 Cornel West, focusing on Gaza, has harsh critiques for opponents, former allies     “The crisis in the Republican Party, the undercutting and the neofascism of Trump on the one hand, and now the Democratic establishment especially around Gaza” mean that he must stay in the race, West said. “We just have to be true to ourselves.”

Dressed in his signature three-piece black suit and gold cuff links etched with the outline of Africa, West dismissed Biden’s consolidating support among progressive leaders, who have argued that even if they don’t agree on everything, a second Biden term is better than a Trump return. West’s salt-and-pepper Afro shook as he decried voters’ options.https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/cornel-west-focusing-on-gaza-has-harsh-critiques-for-opponents-former-allies/ar-AA1nx2TX?

Biden vs Trump

Biden vs Trump

Updated 2023-11-06

2020-10-29 Biden vs Trump on Foreign Policy – Medea Benjamin   But he touts that he didn’t start us in a new war. I wouldn’t really say that, because if you look at things like the terrible, brutal sanctions on countries like Iran and Venezuela, that’s pretty much economic warfare. So, I don’t feel like Trump in any way was a “peace president,” as he likes to put himself forward to be. And as you said, Biden is old school. He wouldn’t be all that different from Obama, which really wasn’t all that different from Bush, which wasn’t all that different from Trump. So, there is a continuity of the US as a warlike country that uses militarism way more than diplomacy.  https://theanalysis.news/biden-vs-trump-on-foreign-policy-medea-benjamin/

Beheaded Children

Beheaded Children

Updated 2024-07-15

2024-04-03 ’40 beheaded babies’: Deconstructing the rumor at the heart of the information battle between Israel and Hamas   This story found to be totally false, can still be found being mentioned as true!      https://www.lemonde.fr/en/les-decodeurs/article/2024/04/03/40-beheaded-babies-the-itinerary-of-a-rumor-at-the-heart-of-the-information-battle-between-israel-and-hamas_6667274_8.html

2024-03-27 My executed Israeli children story was untrue, admits ZAKA’s Yossi Landau    The Jewish extremist behind some of Israel’s worst atrocity propaganda about 7 October admits on camera that one of his stories was untrue. This is a clip from the documentary “October 7” by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit, and is posted here for news reporting purposes. 2024-03-16 Meet Israel’s ZAKA, the group that fabricated the ‘beheaded babies’ story     Lies, graphic fabrications and gory disinformation to manipulate public opinion.   Here’s how ZAKA, a volunteer organization founded on Zionist ideologies, helped Israel galvanize public support in the weeks after October 7.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95X6uWZ9k9Q

2024-02-27 REVEALED: NYT Writer Outed As IDF PROPAGANDIST     Krystal and Saagar discuss a NYT writer on a debunked Oct 7th article being outed as an IDF propagandist. Stories about beheaded babies and rapes were propaganda lies by IDF fake reporters promoted by NY Times.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WMgoEwTbjY

2024-02-26 Examining Israeli Allegations of Atrocities by Resistance in Operation al-Aqsa Flood     Israeli allegations against Palestinian resistance forces and GS residents involved in Operation al-Aqsa Flood on 7/10/2023, were diverse. These claims, orchestrated by organized entities within Israel’s government, aimed to justify its assault on GS and globally vilify Palestinian resistance, despite lacking validity.

Israel disseminated false and fabricated information through sympathetic journalists, accounts and websites to garner global public opinion support for its GS war. This article will address some of these allegations and present evidence to debunk them.

Although the falsehood of a claim has been proven, it sparked widespread outrage upon its publication, with the Israeli side exploiting it to manipulate inaccurate stances. On 10/10/2023, Nicole Zedeck, a correspondent for i24News, alleged that the Palestinian resistance had decapitated babies and that “About 40 babies were taken out on gurneys” in the Kfar Aza settlement. Soon after that, prominent international media outlets, such as sites of FOX News and NBC Montana; the New York Post and The Times newspapers; and site of Mailonline; in addition to CNN news channel, and the Daily Express, The Independent, Metro and The Daily Telegraph newspapers, all echoed this misleading assertion despite the lack of any official Israeli confirmation. Consequently, it created a widespread belief in the Western world that Hamas had perpetrated significant atrocities, influencing political decisions and public sentiment in these countries. This was not only unjust to Palestinian resistance but also harmed the Palestinian people, who endured atrocious attacks based on these inaccurate reports.

The investigative news site The Grayzone reported on 11/10/2023 that it has identified a key source of that claim,   “He is David Ben Zion, a Deputy Commander of Unit 71 of the Israeli army who also happens to be an extremist settler leader who incited violent riots against Palestinians,” and demanded a Palestinian town be “wiped out.”

Despite some media outlets retracting the story, the majority of its negative impact had already taken hold. Removing it from the minds of many who had been exposed to it, even from those newspapers and sources that later denied its accuracy, became challenging.

Colonel Golan Vach, a commander of the IDF National Rescue Unit, stated on 17/10/2023 that “he had carried the bodies of decapitated babies” in Kfar Aza settlement. Also, Retired Lt. Col. Yaron Buskila, a member of the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF), an organization founded by retired army generals that advocates (particularly on the international level) for the idea that peace in Israel can only be achieved through force, stated to The Epoch Times, an extreme right-wing international newspaper, that he spoke to a rabbi who reportedly visited the Kfar Aza settlement and told him that he saw decapitated children.   These allegations have been repeated by well-known Israeli organizations and institutions known for their lack of accuracy and credibility, such as the ZAKA organization and United Hatzalah.

On the other hand, official Israeli institutions have proven these allegations to be false. The National Insurance Institute of Israel (NII) published on its website on 9/11/2023 a list of 695 Israeli civilians who were killed on 7/10/2023 (and in the days that followed), along with their IDs and the circumstances of their deaths. Among them were 36 minors, 20 of whom were under the age of 15, including seven children under the age of ten. Ten were killed as a result of rocket attacks. According to NII, 46 civilians were killed in Kfar Aza, the youngest of whom was 14 years old. Only one infant girl, Mila Cohen (ten months old), along with her father and grandmother, was killed in Be’er Sheva. Her mother survived, and the perpetrator of her murder has not been identified.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz denied, in a report, the allegations of beheaded babies and burnt babies on 7/10/2023, affirming that such a narrative is untrue and lacks evidence. It mentioned that “Most of the other children who were murdered were killed in or near their homes, usually with other family members,” and confirmed that there is no evidence that children from several families were murdered together, rendering inaccurate Netanyahu’s remark to President Biden that Hamas forces “took dozens of children, tied them up, burned them and executed them.” Haaretz stated, after examining each victim’s name individually, that the total number of casualties is 1,219, including 1,105 killed on 7/10/2023; 851 civilians (including 32 children aged between 4-17 years and a 10-month-old infant), and 368 Israeli soldiers.

Therefore, these Israeli claims are false and inaccurate, and several media outlets and journalists have retracted reports they published regarding the allegation of beheaded babies. Among them is CNN channel, whose correspondent Sara Sidner apologized for reporting the news. The White House also retracted the statement made by Biden, and the Israeli army spokesperson to Anadolu Agency stated that the army does “not have any details or confirmation about that.” Israeli journalist Yishai Cohen also deleted an interview he had posted on the X platform, which included claims that dead “Babies and children were hung on a cloth line in a row,” during the attack launched by Palestinian resistance on Israeli settlements in the Gaza envelope on 7/10/2023. Cohen clarified, in tweets he posted on 29/11/2023 on the social media site X, that

“The interview was offered to me by the IDF spokesperson. I did not know the interviewee [Yaron Buskila] before. A representative of DoC was present in all the filming and approved the broadcast.”

Furthermore, Chaim Otmazgin, head of Zaka’s “special forces,” in a statement to Agence France-Presse (AFP), admitted that the organization’s volunteers “sometimes misinterpreted what they saw.” Whereas Haaretz published a report exposing Zaka’s “cases of negligence, misinformation and a fundraising campaign that used the dead as props,” and that Zaka “was entangled in debts of millions of shekels,” while noting that since October 7, “says a source at Zaka, they have raised over 50 million shekels ($13.7 million).” Additionally, Otmazgin, who “serves in the Home Front Command’s rescue unit” was highlighted for having “played a central role in the association between the organization and the IDF.”   https://www.globalresearch.ca/examining-israeli-allegations-atrocities-resistance-operation-al-aqsa-flood/5850689

2023-10-20 Unconfirmed ‘Beheaded Babies’ Report Helped Justify Israeli Slaughter      There’s perhaps no more serious a time for journalists to do their jobs responsibly than during a war.    But corporate media have not been, as evidenced by their repetition of the shocking, unsubstantiated claim that Hamas had beheaded 40 babies in its violent attack on a kibbutz in southern Israel on October 7.

It all started with television reporting by journalist Nicole Zedek, who works for the 24-hour Israeli cable news channel i24, now embedded with the Israeli Defense Forces. In one October 10 report, she said, “I’m talking to some of the soldiers, and they say what they’ve witnessed…babies, their heads cut off.” In another report later that day, she says, “About 40 babies at least were taken out on gurneys,” prompting the host to interject: “Nicole, I have to cut in—that’s such a shocking, jarring statement there…. You’re saying 40 babies, dead babies?”

A Turkish news outlet (Anadolu Ajansi, 10/10/23) did what Zedek and others should have done in the first place, reporting the story rather than just repeating the sources’ claims. It called the Israeli Defense Forces and found that the military would not confirm the account—a minimal step that Zedek and the many outlets that repeated her claims should have taken, given the gravity of the charges.  But the damage had been done; by Wednesday, nearly a dozen British newspapers ran the i24 claims on their front pages. The Israeli government picked up the story and ran with it too, even as it wouldn’t confirm it. Eventually, US President Biden was caught saying that he had seen photos of decapitated infants when he had not; the White House was forced to issue an embarrassing “clarification.”

2023-10-12 Biden lied about seeing photos of beheaded Israeli children    The White House confirmed on Wednesday evening that President Joe Biden’s claim that he had seen photos of Israeli children beheaded by Hamas fighters is false.  “I’ve been doing this a long time. I never really thought that I would see, have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children,” Biden said to leaders of US Jewish organizations at the White House on Wednesday evening.  The president was echoing lurid claims by the Israeli government that women and children had been beheaded by Hamas fighters who took over an Israeli settlement across the boundary from Gaza in recent days. But the administration quickly backtracked on the president’s seeming confirmation of a story Israel has been using to justify its ongoing mass slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.  “A White House spokesperson later clarified that US officials and the president have not seen pictures or confirmed such reports independently,” The Washington Post reported. “The president based his comments about the alleged atrocities on the claims from Netanyahu’s spokesman and media reports from Israel, according to the White House.”     https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/biden-lied-about-seeing-photos-beheaded-israeli-childrenchildren

American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)

American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) (see Israel Lobby) (see Israel Propaganda)

Updated 2024-08-24

Petition: Outlaw AIPAC and all political action committees that promote genocide    ‘m disgusted how US politicians at all levels of government accept large donations of money from AIPAC–the American Israel Public Affairs Committee–and related special interest political action committees (PACs) that promote foreign interests detrimental to humanity as a whole.

Why should American politicians be servants of AIPAC and continually give more arms and funding to the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to ethnically cleanse the indigenous Palestinian people? According to the medical journal The Lancet, there have been an estimated 186,000 deaths caused by American bombs dropped by the IDF onto the civilians living in Gaza. More children have lost an arm or leg since October 2023 from these bombings than in any other war in the history of humankind.

Why is the US government supporting these acts of heartless terrorism instead of stopping the bombings and bringing aid and comfort to the suffering Palestinian people?   https://www.change.org/p/outlaw-aipac-and-all-political-action-committees-that-promote-genocide?

2024-08-08 Tlaib Slams White House for Criticizing Cori Bush’s Vow to Fight AIPAC   Bush will “be remembered for valiantly standing up for the rights of Palestinians when too many still did not have the political courage to do so.”   U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib on Wednesday ripped the White House for admonishing Rep. Cori Bush’s vow to fight the American Israel Public Affairs Committee after the powerful lobby group spent millions of dollars to unseat the Missouri Democrat for opposing Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza.

AIPAC’s dark money arm, United Democracy Project (UDP), spent $8 million in support of Bush’s opponent, St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell, in the second-most expensive House race ever. UDP spent $15 million to defeat Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), another “Squad” member who has criticized Israel’s war on Gaza. AIPAC has vowed to spend $100 million to unseat progressive lawmakers—many of them Black and brown—who it deems insufficiently supportive of Israel.

In a defiant concession speech on Tuesday night, Bush declared, “AIPAC, I’m coming to tear your kingdom down!”   “All they did was radicalize me, so now they need to be afraid,” she added. https://www.commondreams.org/news/cori-bush-rashida-tlaib

2024-08-07 AIPAC Hijacks Rep. Cori Bush’s Race–and Our Elections    The progressive lawmaker’s defeat in her Democratic primary is a tremendous blow to progressives and to the U.S. electoral process itself.   Representative Cori Bush, a progressive black woman from St. Louis, Missouri who is a member of “the Squad” in the U.S. House and has been a powerful voice in Congress for poor people, women’s rights, healthcare, housing–and Palestine—just lost her primary because pro-Israel lobby groups flooded the race with outside funding. Her loss is a tremendous blow to progressives and to the U.S. electoral process itself.

This is the pro-Israel lobby’s second “win” of the season. The first was the June defeat of progressive, black congressman from Westchester County, N.Y., Jamaal Bowman, who was a forceful critic of Israel’s attacks on Gaza. AIPAC and its mis-named super PAC, the United Democracy Project, barged into Westchester County to anoint an opponent—white, pro-Israel Westchester County Executive George Latimer—and then shower him with cash.   https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/aipac-cori-bush

2024-06-22 Bowman Calls for Primary Voters to Reject AIPAC Money at Rally With Sanders, AOC   Congressman Jamaal Bowman, a prominent critic of Israel’s war on Gaza, called on Saturday for voters to defeat the influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which has poured millions of dollars into defeating him, as he made his final campaign push before the Democratic primary in New York’s 16th Congressional District on Tuesday.

The contest has seen one of the largest influxes of money of any U.S. House of Representatives primary race in history, mainly because of AIPAC’s super PAC, the United Democracy Project (UDP), which has spent more than any interest group has ever spent on a House race—more than $14 million, according to The New York Times.

“AIPAC is scared to death,” Bowman (D-N.Y.) said at an animated rally in the Bronx in which Sen. Bernie Sander (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) also spoke. “They are afraid they have already lost,” he said, citing public opposition to AIPAC’s agenda. https://www.commondreams.org/news/jamaal-bowman-rally

2024-03-20 Prominent Jewish Americans Condemn AIPAC Effort to ‘Dominate’ US Primaries      More than 100 prominent Jewish Americans signed a statement released Wednesday condemning the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s increasingly aggressive interventions in U.S. elections, particularly Democratic Party primaries in which the powerful lobbying group is spending big to unseat progressives.

The statement’s list of signatories includes well-known scholars, rabbis, anti-war activists, journalists, and filmmakers who have “agreed to come together to highlight and oppose the unprecedented and damaging role of AIPAC” and its allied organizations in the American electoral process. The statement calls on Democratic candidates to reject all funding from AIPAC’s political network.

“We recognize the purpose of AIPAC’s interventions in electoral politics is to defeat any critics of Israeli government policy and to support candidates who vow unwavering loyalty to Israel, thereby ensuring the United States’ continuing support for all that Israel does, regardless of its violence and illegality,” reads the new statement from Jewish Americans, which can be read in full below.    https://www.commondreams.org/news/jewish-americans-oppose-aipac

2024-03-11 Groups Form ‘Reject AIPAC’ Coalition to Fight Israel Lobby’s Attacks on Progressives     U.S. progressive groups “working together to take on the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and its affiliated dark money super PACs” on Monday announced the launch of the Reject AIPAC coalition, which is urging candidates for federal office to not accept endorsements or contributions from the nation’s most prominent Zionist lobby.

Reject AIPAC says it “will organize Democratic voters and elected officials to reject the destructive influence of the Republican megadonor-backed AIPAC on the Democratic primary process and our government’s policy towards Palestine and Israel.”

“We have watched as AIPAC has done everything it can to silence growing dissent in Congress against [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s assault on Gaza—which has killed over 31,000 Palestinians—even as Democratic voters overwhelmingly support a cease-fire and oppose sending more blank checks to the Israeli military,” the coalition said in a statement.

“Now, AIPAC’s Republican donor-funded super PAC is threatening to spend $100 million targeting the handful of Black and brown members of Congress who have led the calls for a cease-fire and the equal protection of Palestinian and Israeli lives,” the groups continued. https://www.commondreams.org/news/reject-aipac

2024-03-04 AIPAC’s Dark Money Arm Unleashes $100 Million Blitz on Progressives    Amidst global outcry over the ongoing assault on Gaza and the related humanitarian crisis it has wrought, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s super PAC is set to spend a staggering $100 million against both pro-Palestine congressional progressives and more moderate Democratic candidates who the powerful lobby group believes don’t sufficiently support Israel.

With increasing numbers of Democrats speaking out against the far-right government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over its genocide in Gaza and violent repression in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, AIPAC has shown zero tolerance for even the mildest criticism of Israeli government policies and practices.

Progressives have hit back by spotlighting AIPAC’s Republican benefactors, and the group’s endorsement of over 100 GOP lawmakers who voted to subvert the 2020 presidential election in service of former President Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” that Democrats rigged the contest.  https://www.commondreams.org/news/aipac-2024

2024-02-22 AOC blasts AIPAC as ‘The NRA of foreign policy’  As the American Israel Public Affairs Committee took aim at Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive lawmakers critical of U.S. support for Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, the New York Democrat compared the lobby group to the National Rifle Association.

After a CNN journalist noted on social media that an Israeli group submitted to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) a report on sexual violence allegedly committed during the Hamas-led October 7 attack on Israel, AIPAC claimed that “a cease-fire now keeps these rapist monsters armed and in power in Gaza,” and mentioned multiple members of Congress, including Ocasio-Cortez.

The New York Democrat responded that “it is appalling that AIPAC is targeting women members of Congress who have survived sexual assault with this horrific rhetoric. Each and every day, their role in U.S. politics becomes a greater scandal. They are the NRA of foreign policy. Of course they don’t want a cease-fire.”

The other lawmakers targeted by AIPAC were Democratic Reps. Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.), Cori Bush (Mo.), Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), Summer Lee (D-Pa.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Mark Pocan (Wis.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), the only Palestinian American in Congress.   https://www.commondreams.org/news/aoc-aipac

2024-02-19 AIPAC’s Attack on Pro-Palestinian Congresspeople  The owner of OnlyFans, the former CEO of Victoria’s Secret, the co-founder of Zumba, the creator of Squishmallows… what do all these people have in common? 👀 They’re elites who are funding AIPAC, a right-wing lobby group that is attacking Justice Democrats candidates and their progressive vision. AIPAC’s war chest has only continued to grow since October, and recent reports show that AIPAC now has at least $90 million on hand to unseat the Squad this year.

$90 million!! That is an obscene amount of money, and that won’t be all they spend. We’re in a critical election year and millions more 💰 will keep rolling into AIPAC’s pockets to maintain the status quo and push a pro-war agenda in Congress.

Not on our watch. We’ve taken on the AIPAC network before and won when we elected Squad members like Jamaal Bowman and Summer Lee, and through the power of grassroots fundraising, we can do it again to re-elect them this year.  We need your help. Can you pitch $10 or more today to help Justice Democrats fight back against AIPAC and protect the Squad?  https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ads_ms_jd_20240212_dd_aipacwarchest_dec2024?

2024-02-13 AIPAC’s Surprising Salvo in Orange County   A swing seat in California is seeing a flurry of attack ads from pro-Israel forces. Why?   The premise behind AIPAC and its pro-Israel allies getting involved in Democratic primaries over the past two election cycles was that a new generation of progressive politicians had become too vocal about the Israeli government’s subjugation of the Palestinians. Therefore, according to these groups, money needed to come off the sidelines to prevent more critics from joining this faction in Washington, and eventually to replace the dissidents with loyal Israel supporters.

So then why is AIPAC’s first investment in the 2024 primary cycle targeting a former Chuck Schumer aide who supports continued funding of Israel without conditions, and who explicitly stated in a questionnaire that he did not “anticipate being on the front lines of any foreign policy issues”?  Dave Min, the target of AIPAC’s first attack, is a state senator seeking to replace Rep. Katie Porter (D), who is running for U.S. Senate, in this district that encompasses Irvine, Huntington Beach, and other parts of Orange County. In the state legislature, he has been a reliable Democratic vote on a host of issues, and he earned Porter’s endorsement in the race, as well as the state party’s endorsement, which gets him on slate mailers.

This will be a toss-up seat in November.  Not only does AIPAC have the desire and financial resources to punish even the tiniest dissent from uncritical support for Israel, it is also determined to influence selections in swing seats, in ways that benefit Republicans in the general election and appear to be funded by Republican donors. That’s a problem for groups whose endorsements happen to align with AIPAC’s, and in particular the pro-women, pro-choice group EMILYs List.    https://prospect.org/politics/2024-02-13-aipac-democratic-primary-orange-county/

2024-01-22 Give AIPAC The Finger  AIPAC and its allies funnel Republican and (illegally) Israeli money into Democratic primaries to defeat progressives. Last cycle they spent millions of dollars to replace Andy Levin (D-MI) and Marie Newman (D-IL) with more conservative candidates.  At the same time, they financed conservative candidates against Donna Edwards (MD), Christina Garcia (CA)— elected a lifelong Republican masquerading as a Democrat in a heavily blue district— Nina Turner (OH), Jessica Cisneros (TX), Daniel Lee (CA), Erica Smith (NC), Nida Allam (NC), Angelica Duenas (CA), Summer Lee (PA) and others.   The only candidate on that list who prevailed was Summer Lee. And this year, AIPAC is back for another attempt to defeat her.

In fact, AIPAC is boasting that it and its allies will spend $100 million against progressives this year.  In immediate danger are the progressives on this page: Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Angelica Duenas (D-CA), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Pervez Agwan (D-TX), Cori Bush (D-MO) and, as we mentioned, Summer Lee.

AIPAC has been doing this for a very long time, although only recently with money from Republican billionaires. In the past they financed defeats for Democrats who didn’t tow the Likud line, like Cynthia McKinney (GA) and Earl Hillard (AL).

former Ohio state Senator Nina Turner told us that   “The pouring in of millions of dollars of dark money from AIPAC and DMFI completely suffocated the voices of the voters in Ohio 11th Congressional District on 2021 and 2022. Moreover, the targeting of Black progressive leaders using more centrist Black candidates as cover is deeply disturbing and has layers of anti-Black racism.

Former Congresswoman Marie Newman had a similar perspective:  “More than anything else I’m deeply concerned about how AIPAC, Democratic Majority for Israel (DMFI) and their 20 affiliate PACs are putting a huge wedge in the Democratic Party, particularly in the House.   Those groups are desperate to have all members be conservative or centrist, so they can control them and their votes.  In the last 3 months I’ve talked to several Members of Congress who live in absolute fear of AIPAC and DMFI working against them or primarying them.

Ultimately, their bullying of members and donors is starting to backfire. Voters now know who they are and their vile tactics.  I believe that this now will work against AIPAC/DMFI/affiliate candidates.   https://crooksandliars.com/2024/01/give-aipac-finger

2023-12-03 AIPAC was among the top 20 spenders in the 2022 elections. Here’s how it breaks down.     The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, took a sharp turn in 2021 when it began endorsing candidates and contributing directly to campaigns. Since then, it has been amongst the top spenders in politics, contributing to the campaigns of 342 Congressmembers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVIze8BR4vQ

2023-11-18 MEET THE SECRET DONORS WHO FUND AIPAC’S ISRAEL TRIPS FOR CONGRESS    FOR THE American Israel Public Affairs Committee, one of Washington’s most influential lobby groups, trips to Israel for members of Congress play an important role in lining up support on Capitol Hill. Millions are spent every year ferrying dozens upon dozens of members to Israel for eight-day junkets.

Who pays for these trips has, until now, remained largely a mystery. According to an unredacted tax filing for 2019 obtained by The Intercept, the financiers are a clutch of large foundations and nonprofits, some of which are family-run, that also give to a wide range of other political and cultural groups.

According to the unredacted 2019 tax filing, AIEF drew millions of dollars from eight philanthropic groups, estates, and family foundations: the Koret Foundation, the Swartz Foundation, the Jewish Communal Fund, the One8 Foundation, Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, the Paul E. Singer Foundation, Milton Cooper 2013 Revocable Trust, and the estate of Hedy Orden. These donors helped finance 129 AIEF-sponsored trips to Israel in 2019, totaling $2.32 million, according to the public records database LegiStorm.    https://theintercept.com/2023/11/18/aipac-congress-israel-trips-donors/

2023-11-17 AIPAC Vows Revenge After Democrats Send Biden Letter Urging Ceasefire in Gaza       AIPAC is furious after 24 House Democrats sent a letter to President Biden urging a ceasefire in Gaza.  John Iadarola, Helen Hong and Sharon Reed discuss on The Young Turks. A manifesto for a new progressive vision.  “Today we are announcing an expanded coalition of 24 members of Congress pressing the Biden administration for a bilateral ceasefire in Gaza on the basis of grave violations of children’s rights.”*https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dt0bjC5Rks

2023-11-16 How to Defeat AIPAC and the Israel Lobby (w/ Ralph Nader) Consumer advocate & former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader joins Bad Faith to weigh in on the revolving chairs of the Green Party’s presidential candidates, the strategic value of Cornel West running as an independent, & how to decide between West and Dr. Jill Stein. Briahna also asks him to address recent reporting that he would “help Joe Biden win, how people power can beat AIPAC, and whether he, as perhaps the most prominent Arab-American politician in the US, has been able to connect with Rashida Tlaib since being censured by congress. Nader explains the immense value of his print media publication, Capital Hill Citizen, and why every leftist looking to push left politics forward should pick up a copy.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QB-xVXo_Fmw

2023-11-05 Sanders Blasts AIPAC After Group Thanks Him for Not Demanding Cease-Fire in Gaza   After the American Israel Public Affairs Committee on Sunday publicly thanked U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders for declining to join global calls for a cease-fire in Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, the Vermont Independent rebuffed the lobbying group.

The senator—under progressive pressure to change his position on Israel’s war—noted that AIPAC “has supported dozens of GOP extremists who are undermining our democracy” and is “now working hard to defeat progressive members of Congress.”

“AIPAC endorsed scores of January 6th insurrectionists. They are no friend to American democracy. They are one of the more racist and bigoted PACs in Congress as well, who disproportionately target members of color. They are an extremist organization that destabilizes U.S. democracy.” https://www.commondreams.org/news/aipac-bernie-sanders

2018-05-30 The Occupation of the American Mind (original 84-minute version)      Over the past few years, Israel’s ongoing military occupation of Palestinian territory and repeated invasions of the Gaza strip have triggered a fierce backlash against Israeli policies virtually everywhere in the world — except the United States. The Occupation of the American Mind takes an eye-opening look at this critical exception, zeroing in on pro-Israel public relations efforts within the U.S.

Narrated by Roger Waters and featuring leading observers of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and U.S. media culture, the film explores how the Israeli government, the U.S. government, and the pro-Israel lobby have joined forces, often with very different motives, to shape American media coverage of the conflict in Israel’s favor. From the U.S.-based public relations campaigns that emerged in the 1980s to today, the film provides a sweeping analysis of Israel’s decades-long battle for the hearts, minds, and tax dollars of the American people in the face of widening international condemnation of its increasingly right-wing policies. Narrated by Roger Waters / Featuring Amira Hass, M.J. Rosenberg, Stephen M. Walt, Noam Chomsky, Rula Jebreal, Henry Siegman, Rashid Khalidi, Rami Khouri, Yousef Munayyer, Norman Finkelstein, Max Blumenthal, Phyllis Bennis, Norman Solomon, Mark Crispin Miller, Peter Hart, and Sut Jhally.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP0-YohJR-g&list=PLcKTcNwy7BrF2fsCRkNDSpVvfpG6_RKiW&index=3

2023-11-04 The Misguided Stories Americans Tell Themselves About Israel and Palestine       There’s an understandable impression that can come from the coverage of the October 7 attack that Israel and Palestine had been at peace, and now suddenly they’re at war. Was the Israeli occupation peaceful for Palestinians prior to October 7?   That, perhaps, is the biggest myth.  One is the fact that you have a 56-year-old occupation. That is a violent act because even for Palestinians not involved in what we see as violence, meaning shootings and death, it is military control.  It is violent in the sense that there’s no one to defend them when there are Israeli military incursions that often are done for security purposes, but sometimes seem to be draconian in a way that is terrifying.    In addition to that, you have the Palestinians in prison. It’s estimated that there’s been about a million Palestinians who have been imprisoned throughout the occupation. There are thousands in prison now, including over 1,000 who have not faced charges or trial.

Number two, to the extent that he mobilized the West with a similar message, he clearly created a global polarization on this issue the likes of which we have not seen. We see that the Global South is coalescing, and the Arab and Muslim world is seeing this as a Western assault on their humanity in a way that we haven’t seen in the past.

Number three, it will most likely draw in parties that don’t want to be involved. I think Hezbollah prefers not to get into war. I think that Iran prefers not to get into war. But they could get drawn into it because of the scale. But more importantly, if I’m in Hezbollah’s position, I would be saying to myself, If they decided to do this to Hamas, they’re going to come after me when they’re free of the war with Hamas. Shouldn’t I be starting something sooner?

It isn’t clear to me for what purpose the fighting goes on. I would call for a ceasefire. I would call for release of the hostages. And I would call for serious diplomacy toward a path to end this conflict. As long as the Palestinians don’t have freedom, it is impossible not to fall back into another cycle of major violence. And, of course, not to forget the subtle violence that is constant, that has been there for more than half a century, that comes out of a military occupation that deprives people of basic freedoms.  https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/11/shibley-telhami-israel-palestine-gaza-biden-netanyahu-hamas-settlements/

2023-11-04 Republicans Admit Gaza Is A “Concentration Camp”   Video footage shows that decades ago Republicans like Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul were acknowleding that Gaza is a “concentration camp.” Today you likely won’t hear elected Republicans saying anything of the kind, but among the larger community, even in the United States, the Israeli narrative depicting themselves as the innocent victims of the horrible terrorists of Hamas is rapidly breaking down.  Guest host Craig Jardula and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger speak with columnist George Szamuely about the failures of Israeli propaganda, also known as “hasbara.”   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caPJdImn6JY

Yom Kippur War

Yom Kippur War

Updated 2024-01-07

Yom Kippur War – Wikipedia   The Yom Kippur War, also known as the Ramadan War, the October War, the 1973 Arab–Israeli War, or the Fourth Arab–Israeli War, was an armed conflict fought from 6 to 25 October 1973, between Israel and a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria. The majority of combat between the two sides took place in the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights—both of which had been occupied by Israel in 1967—with some fighting in African Egypt and northern Israel. Egypt’s initial objective in the war was to seize a foothold on the eastern bank of the Suez Canal and subsequently leverage these gains to negotiate the return of the rest of the Israeli-occupied Sinai Peninsula.

The war began on 6 October 1973, when the Arab coalition jointly launched a surprise attack against Israel on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, which had occurred during the 10th day of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan in that year.   Following the outbreak of hostilities, both the United States and the Soviet Union initiated massive resupply efforts to their allies (Israel and the Arab states respectively) during the war, which led to a confrontation between the two nuclear-armed superpowers.

The Yom Kippur War had far-reaching implications; the Arab world had experienced humiliation in the lopsided rout of the Egyptian–Syrian–Jordanian alliance in 1967 but felt psychologically vindicated by early successes in the 1973 conflict. The Israelis recognized that, despite impressive operational and tactical achievements on the battlefield, there was no guarantee that they would always dominate the Arab states militarily, as they had done consistently throughout the First, Second and Third Arab–Israeli Wars; these changes paved the way for the Israeli–Palestinian peace process. At the 1978 Camp David Accords that followed the war, Israel returned the entire Sinai Peninsula to Egypt, which led to the subsequent 1979 Egyptian–Israeli peace treaty, marking the first instance that an Arab country recognized Israel as a legitimate state. Following the achievement of peace with Israel, Egypt continued its drift away from the Soviet Union and eventually left the Soviet sphere of influence entirely.    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Kippur_War

2023-10-08 Israel’s Massive Intelligence Failure    The fact that this attack took place 50 years and a day from when Israel suffered what had been — up until this moment — Israel’s greatest intelligence failure, the 1973 Yom Kippur War, only reinforces the depth of the failure that transpired.

In the weeks following the end of the Yom Kippur War, the government of Prime Minister Golda Meir formed a commission of inquiry headed by Shimon Agranat, the chief justice of the Israeli Supreme Court. The Agranat Commission, as it was subsequently called, focused on the flawed analysis conducted by Israeli military intelligence directorate (AMAN), with particular attention being placed on Eli Zeira, the head of AMAN’s Research and Analysis Department, or RAD.

The United States also examined the root causes of its intelligence failures regarding the Yom Kippur War. A multi-agency assessment of the October 1973 intelligence failure published by the U.S. in December of that year concluded that the issue at that time wasn’t the inability to collect or even accurately assess intelligence data — in fact, the report stated, evidence of an a surprise attack by the armies of Egypt and Syria had been “plentiful, ominous, and often accurate” and that U.S. intelligence analysts debated and wrote about this evidence.  https://consortiumnews.com/2023/10/08/scott-ritter-israels-massive-intelligence-failure/

Western Double Standard

Western Double Standard

Updated 2023-10-29

2023-10-28 The Western Double Standard Enabling Attempted Genocide in Gaza      The Western love of Zionism has always depended on erasing Palestinian history and humanity. Across the Western world, the official and media horror at this month’s unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel, which killed an estimated 1,300 soldiers and civilians, has been accompanied by overwhelming support for Israel’s ongoing brutality towards Gaza, which thus far has killed and wounded over 22,000 Palestinians, overwhelmingly civilians.

The latest installment of Philo-Zionism has exposed more clearly than ever a ruthless double standard that underlies the West’s attachment to Israel: While Jewish Israeli life and the state are virtually sacrosanct in the contemporary West, Muslim and Christian Palestinian life is fundamentally devalued.

Philo-Zionism relies on two pillars. These include a generalized Western view that Israel’s creation is a just and moral recompense for the history of European antisemitism that culminated with the Holocaust; and the consistent racist demonization of Israel’s opponents as non-Western barbarians of a peculiar antisemitic type.  Indeed, Western support for Israel is rooted in the denial of Palestinians as a people with a centuries-old history and culture in the land of Palestine.

The Balfour Declaration of 1917 infamously did not refer to Palestinians or Arabs directly, but simply alluded to the presence of “non-Jewish communities” who paled in historical, moral, and political significance when compared with the “Jewish people,” whose national aspirations the British government upheld.   https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/west-enabling-genocide-in-gaza
