Charlene Kuykendall

Does someone know more about Charlene. Was she the young lady who went on a trip to follow the Grateful Dead? I have a story if this is her!

Charlene helped with making copies and other things to aid Diane Poole with publishing Diane’s book NA Letters from Conord which she wrote during her 1989 jail sentence.

Rabia “Our Mother Terresa”

Rabia? was often at the vigil during earlier special events. She is in several photos of Brian, Martin Sheen, David Hartsough. I went with her once to do something away from vigil over night. With my memory, I just can’t remember what it was. I was probably just giving her a ride to do something. Who knows her more about her? Rabia is the only name I can remember, but I could be wrong. MEK Comments

I know she was there from 9/1 to provide support for the fasters, as that was the initial plan, to move the Fast for Life from DC the prior year, to the tracks. So there was a large support system of mainly women for the vets that would be fasting, Brian, David D., Duncan Chris Baillin was also support along with Dorothy Granada, with a nurse background. Wes Nicholson

Wes lives less than a mile from the Concord Naval Weapons Station Main Gate just off Port Chicago Hwy. Wes was out of town on September 1, 1987, but joined the vigil a number of times in the months afterward. Wes is a musician and wrote a song to Brian and the vigil. I am hoping to get him to make a recording. MEK Comments

In 2009, Wes helped Daniel Zwickel move the Peace Tree from the CNWS Base to the Walnut Creek Unitarian Church. http://www.peacehost.net/NurembergActions/, http://www.peacehost.net/peacetree/index.htm

Today, Wednesday, February 4, 2009, just a day before the 28th anniversary of my coming to the Bay Area, the Tree of Peace was transplanted to its new home, on the west side of our new church sanctuary and overlooking the Creek, and nourished by the ashes of my mother and father, Jean and Abraham.  Thanks to Mike, Wes, John & Lois, for helping to honor them in this most special manner.

Excellent post below from George Lakey on how we can stop Trump from stealing the election and a powerful way for the American people to nonviolently resist and prevent a coup from being successful!  Please share widely!!! Massive noncooperation with a possible Trump coup will be very important.

If All or at least Many of us stop cooperating with the coup and through our nonviolent resistance win over the police, the military, the media, the workers in the transportation system, teachers, professors, students, religious leaders, workers of all sorts – white collar and blue collar, the sports teams and even the bankers and civil servants, we can win!!!

Hope you will circulate this message about www.choosedemocracy.us

and George Lakey’s article, https://wagingnonviolence.org/2020/08/mass-direct-action-might-be-the-only-way-to-stop-trump-from-stealing-the-electionand the training George and Training for Change will be leading Sept 23 and 30th. Hope you will  also sign the Appeal to the Nine governments with nuclear weapons to STOP THE MADNESS!   Please share widely with your friends and colleagues. Peace,David Hartsough

Andrew Jean “Andy” Baltzo Obituary https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/85227650/andrew-jean-baltzo

The Mt. Diablo Peace & Justice Center was founded in 1969 by Andy Baltzo and Arne Westerback. It was first housed in a tiny residence on Sharpe Avenue in Walnut Creek, simply known as the “Peace Center.” Initially started for the purpose of counseling draft resisters in the escalating war in Indochina, the Center quickly developed into a focal point in the community where East Bay residents found a voice against the war. Programs included counseling on avoiding the draft, venues for educational programs and forums/lectures concentrating on the goal of ending the war. A newsletter was developed and the first “Peace Gazette” was published that year and continues today. https://ourpeacecenter.org/about/
