As the total number of U.S. cases reaches over 320,000, Trump continues to blame every person imaginable for his administration’s failure to protect our nation from COVID-19. 

Trump blamed the shortage of personal protective equipment on doctors and nurses, accusing healthcare workers of stealing masks: “Where are the masks going? Are they going out the back door?” 

On Fox & Friends, Trump told viewers that he inherited a bad COVID-19 test from the Obama administration, even though a test couldn’t be created until the new virus was discovered in 2019.

Trump has repeatedly blamed governors, claiming that they are overinflating the number of ventilators that are needed for critically ill patients. After several state officials voiced their frustration with the administration’s response, Trump stated, “if they don’t treat you right, I don’t call.” 

In a last ditch effort, Trump blamed his lack of response to COVID-19 on the impeachment trial, stating it pulled attention away from the pandemic, even though he had 2 months to prepare after the first case was confirmed.  

Shifting the blame does not help protect Americans, but Trump is hoping these lies will protect his reelection campaign

After the U.S. exported $17.5 million in face masks, $13.6 million in surgical garments, and more than $27.2 million in ventilators to China earlier this year, Trump refused to invoke the Defense Production Act to replenish supplies

Trump declined to use the pandemic preparedness playbook compiled by the Obama administration on how to best coordinate relief efforts for biological threats
