2024-08-16 When rabbis say nothing in the face of abuse In a world where rabbinic proclamations appear regularly, rabbinical silence becomes a statement. While there is disagreement about the appropriateness of rabbis making political endorsements, there is a consensus that it is a rabbinical responsibility to promote moral behavior. In this context, the lack of rabbinic response to the campaign to protest the Israeli army’s investigating accusations of sexual and other kinds of abuse of Hamas prisoners is significant. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/when-rabbis-say-nothing-in-the-face-of-abuse/ar-AA1oUV0e?
2024-08-16 Why Israeli Soldiers Rape, Torture, and Massacre Instilling fear in the Palestinian people is not a side effect of the IDF’s brutal violations of human rights. It is the strategy.
On October 25, Israeli politician Moshe Feiglin told Arutz Sheva-Israel National News that “Muslims are not afraid of us anymore.” It might sound odd that Feiglin saw the element of fear as critical to Israel’s well-being if not its very survival. In actuality, the fear element is directly linked to Israel’s behavior and fundamental to its political discourse.
Historically, Israel has carried out massacres with a specific political strategy in mind: to instill the desired fear to drive Palestinians off their land. Deir Yassin, Tantara and the over 70 documented massacres during the Palestinian Nakba, or Catastrophe, are cases in point. https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/idf-rape-torture
2024-08-16 ‘Insane Torture’: Israeli Soldiers Confirm Horrific Abuse of Palestinians at Sde Teiman An Israeli newspaper on Friday published interviews with Israel Defense Forces reservists and medical staff who witnessed the “day-to-day torture” of Palestinian prisoners at the notorious Sde Teiman prison in the Negev Desert, where dozens of detainees have died and others were allegedly raped.
The Israelis described seeing torture and abuse of Palestinians detained in Sde Teiman, who included everyone from Hamas fighters to innocent civilians, and ranged in age from children to octogenarians. “We said, ‘It’s torture.’ But you don’t get into it; you change the subject immediately.” “What’s happening there is total dehumanization. You don’t really relate to them as if they’re real human beings,” said one public hospital physician who worked at Sde Teiman. “In the end it’s no less than torture. There are ways to administer even poor treatment, or even to torture a person, without crushing cigarettes on them.” “Teeth were broken, bones were broken,” said one soldier. “You notice how easy it is to lose your humanity,” said another. https://www.commondreams.org/news/sde-teiman-torture
2024-08-08 Israel journalist urges rape to become state policy for Palestinian prisoners An Israeli journalist advocated rape, Thursday, as an official policy by the state for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Anadolu Agency reports. “The only thing that is a problem for me here is that it is not a regulated policy of the state to abuse the (Palestinian) detainees,” far-right journalist, Yehuda Schlesinger, said on a television program on Channel 12 when asked if raping prisoners is acceptable.
He justified his comments by claiming, “Because first of all, they deserve it, and it is great revenge that we need to give them.” “And, secondly, maybe it will also serve us a little more as a deterrent,” he said. “It is just a shame that we don’t do it in an institutionalised way as a part of regulations for torture of prisoners.”
The comments follow reports by media outlets that showed a video of Israeli soldier raping a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman Prison in the Negev desert in southern Israel. https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20240808-israel-journalist-urges-rape-to-become-state-policy-for-palestinian-prisoners/?

2024-07-30 Israeli Militants Riot Over Investigation Into Torture of Palestinian Prisoner Israeli militants waged a violent riot on Monday, breaking into multiple facilities to support nine Israeli soldiers who were slated to appear in a military court for a hearing over allegations that they had raped a Palestinian man who they were imprisoning at a notorious Israeli torture camp.
The groups of protesters pushed up against soldiers as they broke into the Sde Teiman camp, where many Palestinians abducted from Gaza have been tortured in recent months, and a military court in a base where the accused soldiers were being held. The Associated Press reported that “several hundred” protesters broke into Sde Teiman, with some wielding megaphones and calling for the reservists to be released. https://truthout.org/articles/israeli-militants-riot-over-investigation-into-torture-of-palestinian-prisoner/
