Biden – Geocide Joe

Updated 2024-08-24

Why Biden is hiding  Biden’s team has taken to hosting smaller events and keeping locations a secret until the President arrives, lest he be heckled by pro-Palestinian protesters — and they’re reportedly considering hiring a private company to screen attendees ahead of a major fundraiser this month.

The facade of unquestioning U.S. support for the Israeli government is crumbling, thanks in large part to the immense pressure being exerted by the Palestine solidarity movement.    Biden knows U.S. complicity in the Gaza genocide could cost him the 2024 election, and he’s willing to do just about anything to save face — except cut off the flow of U.S. dollars to Israel’s genocidal military.   https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/2024/03/06/why-biden-is-hiding/

2024-08-08 Tlaib Slams White House for Criticizing Cori Bush’s Vow to Fight AIPAC   Bush will “be remembered for valiantly standing up for the rights of Palestinians when too many still did not have the political courage to do so.”   U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib on Wednesday ripped the White House for admonishing Rep. Cori Bush’s vow to fight the American Israel Public Affairs Committee after the powerful lobby group spent millions of dollars to unseat the Missouri Democrat for opposing Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza.

AIPAC’s dark money arm, United Democracy Project (UDP), spent $8 million in support of Bush’s opponent, St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell, in the second-most expensive House race ever. UDP spent $15 million to defeat Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), another “Squad” member who has criticized Israel’s war on Gaza. AIPAC has vowed to spend $100 million to unseat progressive lawmakers—many of them Black and brown—who it deems insufficiently supportive of Israel.

In a defiant concession speech on Tuesday night, Bush declared, “AIPAC, I’m coming to tear your kingdom down!”   “All they did was radicalize me, so now they need to be afraid,” she added. https://www.commondreams.org/news/cori-bush-rashida-tlaib

2024-08-06 Netanyahu Isn’t Interested in Peace, So Why Does Biden Keep Pretending Otherwise?    Why—in the midst of critical negotiations to implement U.S. President Joe Biden’s plan to bring about a cease-fire in Gaza, release Israelis held captive by Hamas and a significant number of Palestinians held by Israel, and move toward a negotiated permanent end to the conflict—would Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu decide to assassinate the chief Hamas negotiator while he was visiting Iran? And why—while the U.S. says it was working to deescalate tensions with Lebanon’s Hezbollah—would Israel choose to up the ante by assassinating Hezbollah’s number two?  Why hasn’t the administration condemned the assassinations in Beirut and Iran when they know that they will surely sabotage the efforts of negotiators?

We know the answers to both questions: Benjamin Netanyahu isn’t interested in peace. He doesn’t want a negotiated deal to release hostages and end the war on Gaza. He doesn’t want to deescalate the conflict there or in the north with Hezbollah. And he most certainly doesn’t want a “two-state solution” that would grant the Palestinian people independence in a sovereign state of their own.

There are two things Netanyahu does want, and, at this point, both are perversely connected. Above all, he desperately wants to remain in office, because should he lose his post as prime minister, the prosecution of the corruption charges against him will continue in full force. As the charges are so serious and the evidence so clear, he will likely be convicted and humiliated. This is not speculation—it’s widely discussed in Israel and was even hinted at by President Biden in a May 28 interview with Time Magazine. When he was asked “Is Netanyahu prolonging the war for political reasons?” Biden responded, “There is every reason for people to draw that conclusion.”

The second reason is that Netanyahu wants the war to continue and even be accelerated. He made this clear in his remarks before U.S. Congress and in an address to the Israeli public a few days ago. He seeks “total victory,” which he defines as more than the military defeat of Israel’s enemies. Without acknowledging any Israeli culpability, he charged that the Palestinians had created a hate-filled culture which in the post-war period would require massive deradicalization—the outcome of which would have Palestinians accepting Jewish hegemony in Eretz Israel and understanding their place as a conquered and subordinate people. https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/netanyahu-doesn-t-want-peace

2024-08-02 Harris Must Commit to Ending Support for Israel’s Genocide in Gaza     During Donald Trump’s presidency, he repeatedly capitulated to Israel’s Zionist regime. He illegally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, illegally recognized Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, and declared Israeli settlements on Palestinian land lawful despite international law to the contrary.

As Israel continues its 10-month genocidal campaign in Gaza, there is no doubt that if he were president now, Trump would give Israel everything it wants to “finish what they started” and “get it over with fast,” that is, ethnically cleanse all of the Palestinians from Gaza.

But this genocide is happening on Joe Biden’s watch. His administration has aided and abetted Israeli genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, killing more than 40,000 Palestinians according to the official Gaza Health Ministry count, although the real death toll is likely much higher. Besides the $3.8 billion the U.S. sends annually to Israel, it has furnished an additional $15 billion in military aid since October 7, 2023. And the U.S. has provided political and diplomatic cover to Israel by vetoing three Security Council resolutions that would have required a ceasefire in Gaza.   https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/kamala-harris-israel-genocide-in-gaza

2024-07-25 Palestinian Activists Say Biden’s Legacy Is Gaza Genocide and US Imperialism    Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who is reportedly being considered as a potential running mate for Harris, wrote, “President Biden is a patriot who has served our country honorably in the Senate, as Vice President, and as one of the most consequential presidents in modern history.” While much of the praise Biden has received has been underscored by quiet relief — in Magic 8 Ball terms, I would say the Democratic Party’s prospects in November have shifted from “outlook not so good” to “ask again later” — these conciliatory rehabilitations of Biden’s crumbling image warrant correction.

While “history” is often characterized as an all-knowing, future moral arbiter, the burden of recording truths that should be reiterated across time falls to those living in the present. In addition to ensuring that Biden is remembered as an architect of mass incarceration, a persecutor of Anita Hill, and a friend to segregationists, we must also resist any sympathetic framing of his political descent. While Biden’s supporters have characterized the president as an old man with a stutter who was bullied and betrayed, the truth of Biden’s last act is far more horrific. It is a tale that should be told in ever-climbing death tolls, in the testimonies of doctors who have pulled maggots from the flesh-torn bodies of children, and through the cries of bereft orphans, parents, and grandparents who have lost the “soul of [their] soul” to U.S.-backed Israeli military assaults. As Palestinian scholar, author, and activist Eman Abdelhadi told me this week, “Biden’s name should never be spoken without the names of the dead of Gaza. It was within his power to stop this genocide, and he chose not to.”https://truthout.org/articles/palestinian-activists-say-bidens-legacy-is-gaza-genocide-and-us-imperialism/

2024-07-25 US Health Workers Back From Gaza Calculate Death Toll at 92,000 — at a Minimum     ozens of U.S. doctors and nurses who have returned from volunteer trips to Gaza say in a scathing new letter that Israel’s assault, along with the famine and epidemics raging across Gaza, have killed a conservative estimate of at least 92,000 Palestinians so far — over double the widely-cited official death count by health officials.

In their message sent to President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the first lady on Thursday, the group of 45 health care workers say that the things they saw in Gaza are beyond anything they have seen in other conflicts, and will forever be seared in their minds.

“President and Dr. Biden, we wish you could see the nightmares that plague so many of us since we have returned: dreams of children maimed and mutilated by our weapons, and their inconsolable mothers begging us to save them,” they wrote. “We wish you could hear the cries and screams our consciences will not let us forget. We cannot believe that anyone would continue arming the country that is deliberately killing these children after seeing what we have seen.” https://truthout.org/articles/us-health-workers-back-from-gaza-calculate-death-toll-at-92000-at-a-minimum/

2024-07-22 Advocates Say Biden Must Immediately Act to Stop Polio Outbreak in Gaza     Advocates for Palestinian rights are demanding that the Biden administration take urgent action to stop a potential outbreak of polio in Gaza after the virus that causes the deadly disease was found in Gaza’s wastewater, threatening an epidemic that would be nothing short of catastrophic.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) says that Biden bears responsibility to respond to the crisis after funding Israel’s destruction of Gaza’s health and sanitation systems, which has created conditions ripe for a deadly epidemic.

“Having enabled the wholesale destruction of civilian infrastructure and medical facilities in Gaza, the Biden administration has a duty to ensure that polio vaccines reach all those who need to be vaccinated,” said CAIR communications director Ibrahim Hooper in a statement Sunday.https://truthout.org/articles/advocates-say-biden-must-immediately-act-to-stop-polio-outbreak-in-gaza/

2024-07-16 Biden Says He’s Done “More” for Palestinians “Than Anybody” as He Backs Genocide      resident Joe Biden bragged about his supposed charity to Palestinians in an interview on Monday, claiming that he’s done “more” for Palestinians “than anybody” — despite the fact that he has done more to perpetuate the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza than any world leader outside of Israel.

In an interview on Complex’s “360 With Speedy” released Monday, Biden implied that he deserves praise for supposedly allowing Palestinians in Gaza to access humanitarian aid. In reality, however, his administration has consistently encouraged Israeli officials to block all humanitarian aid into Gaza, resulting in famine and widespread disease for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

“By the way, I’m the guy that did more for the Palestinian community than anybody. I’m the guy that opened up all the assets. I’m the guy that made sure that I got the Egyptians to open the border to let goods through, medicine and food,” Biden said in the interview that was filmed on Friday.https://truthout.org/articles/biden-says-hes-done-more-for-palestinians-than-anybody-as-he-backs-genocide/

2024-06-20 Biden Continues to Cement a Bloody and Immoral Legacy in Gaza     The president’s level of indifference to the human suffering of Palestinians can only be described as soulless.

With the world’s sensibility already reeling from Israel’s deliberate incineration of dozens of civilians huddled in tents in a purported safe zone in Rafah, the genocidaires doubled down two weeks later by slaughtering nearly 300 Palestinians and wounding 700 more during their U.S.-aided rescue of four Israeli hostages.

Upon receiving word of the blood-drenched June 8 operation, American President Joe Biden celebrated the “safe rescue” of the hostages while wholly ignoring the so-called collateral damage—innocent civilians, most of whom were women and children. That level of indifference can only be described as soulless.   So goes the ongoing reveal of the American president’s true nature  https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/biden-immoral-gaza-legacy

2024-06-15 Biden Prioritizes US Imperial Ambition Over Palestinian Rights   While Israel continues its military siege of Gaza, the United States is trying to exploit the situation with the goal of strengthening U.S. power in the Middle East.

Rather than seeking a long-term solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, the United States is prioritizing its longstanding goal of normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. With such a deal, which would require calm in Gaza to bring Saudi Arabia on board, the United States would further marginalize the Palestinians while more tightly integrating Israel into its regional network of alliances and partnerships.  “I think we’re at a point where the necessary agreements between the United States and Saudi Arabia are very well within reach,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Congress last month.

For decades, the United States has dominated the Middle East. A key to U.S. power has been the U.S.-led network of alliances and partnerships that includes Israel and the Arab states. It enables the United States to station tens of thousands of soldiers across the Middle East and quickly surge additional forces into the area.   “It’s a vast strategic advantage,” Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin explained in 2021, referring to the U.S.-led network. “It is unmatched. It is unparalleled. And it is unrivaled.”   https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/biden-u-s-imperialism-palestine

2024-06-09 Can Biden Learn From 1968 Before It’s Too Late?  In order to get the necessary turnout among young people, minorities, and progressives to prevent a Republican victory in November, the Biden administration needs to change its policies, and soon.

The year 1968 may be repeating itself. The United States is again experiencing an incumbent Democratic administration supporting an unpopular war, disruptive protests on college campuses, police repression against nonviolent demonstrators, a Republican challenger promising to restore law and order and, to top it off, a Democratic National Convention in Chicago.   https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/biden-learn-from-1968

2024-04-07 Israel’s Aid Capitulation Exposes the Lie Behind Biden’s Gaza Policy   The Biden administration has insisted there’s very little it can do to alter policy in the region and acted as though Israel’s policy decisions are unconnected to the United States, the country that gives them more than $4 billion a year in military aid.  https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/israel-s-aid-capitulation-exposes-the-lie-behind-biden-s-gaza-policy

2024-03-22 Should Biden be tried for genocide crimes? | The Chris Hedges Report     Israel has killed more than 30,000 Palestinians over the past 5 months of its genocide in Gaza, including more than 13,000 children. The Israeli bombing campaign has wiped hospitals, universities, primary schools, and other critical infrastructure off the map, not even sparing tent cities in Rafah where over a million displaced people have fled to. Through it all, the Biden administration has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel, supplying the funds and arms required for Israel’s extermination campaign to continue. As international legal action against Israel and its allies mounts, the question has arisen of whether and how the US and its leaders ought to be brought to justice. A recently appealed lawsuit from the Center for Constitutional Rights, filed on behalf of Palestinian human rights organization Defense for Children Palestine, sought to do just that. Plaintiff Ayman Nijim and CCR Senior Staff Attorney Katherine Gallagher join The Chris Hedges Report to discuss their recent lawsuit and the possibility of a genocide crimes case against President Biden.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhyIxP7DTyg

2024-03-19 Cornel West slams Joe Biden’s Gaza policy: ‘Most of our politicians are cowards’ | Real Talk Online     Our guest this week is US independent presidential candidate Cornel West, and we ask him why he called Joe Biden a “war criminal”.   He also explains why he feels Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a “gangster”, why Biden’s Gaza policy makes him a “hypocrite” and how Arab-American voters will turn their backs on him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRz5Bjv9KKM

2024-03-21 Former US Diplomat Says ‘Collaboration’ in Gaza Genocide Could Make Biden ‘Target of Prosecution’    A former top adviser at the U.S. State Department was among nearly 70 former diplomats and officials who urged President Joe Biden on Thursday to strengthen his stance against Israel’s practices as it continues its monthslong bombardment of Gaza.

But the Middle East expert, Barnett Rubin, also criticized the letter, calling it “weak” and insufficient in its warnings to the administration.  Rubin, now a distinguished fellow at the Center on International Cooperation, said the dozens of former government and military officials wrote the letter warning against U.S. support for Israel’s military tactics in response to a Hamas-led attack on October 7, without considering Israeli officials’ open calls for genocidal violence.  “It is evident that making Gaza uninhabitable is a feature, not a bug in this operation,” Rubin wrote in what he described as a “letter of dissent” to the former officials. “You have ignored the issue of genocide.”

“President Biden’s collaboration in this genocide could make him a target of prosecution,” wrote Rubin. “There is NO excuse for providing any aid whatsoever to a force engaged in these actions.”  https://www.commondreams.org/news/biden-israel-support

2024-03-17 Biden’s Embrace of Irish-American Culture Should Include Solidarity with Palestine    President Joe Biden, who proudly touts his Irish heritage, leads an administration that enables Israel’s murderous actions in Gaza through political support and active arms sales. This echoes the suffering our Irish ancestors faced during the English occupation of Ireland and the subsequent Irish Famine, marked by military invasion, occupation, and forced starvation.

President Biden must confront the glaring hypocrisy of his administration’s stance on Palestine. His unwavering support for Israel contradicts the values of justice and human rights that he campaigned on and tarnishes any U.S. claim to moral leadership on the global stage. He cannot celebrate our Irish heritage in the White House while ignoring the Palestinian cries of oppression.  https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/biden-irish-american-solidarity-palestine

2024 -03-01 Progressives Demand That Biden Stop “Greenlighting the Massacre of Palestinians”    Progressive lawmakers are demanding that President Joe Biden call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, saying it is “clear” that Israel is violating orders by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to avoid going further into its massacre with its famine campaign, the lawmakers said.

On Thursday, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan) held a press conference with fellow progressives and sent a letter to Biden demanding that Biden stand up to Israel as it prepares an invasion of Rafah, where 1.5 million people are sheltering after being forcibly removed from their homes in the northern parts of the region. Israeli forces have already begun bombing in what residents have described as some of the worst attacks on Gaza so far.

The lawmakers join human rights experts and groups also saying that Israel is defying the ICJ’s orders to avoid going further into its slaughter, already finding it “plausible” that Israel is committing genocide in an initial ruling. Many experts have maintained that Israel’s assault is one of the most clear examples of genocide in modern times.

The genocide has been made possible by U.S. weaponry and continued military and diplomatic support by the Biden administration, which advocates say is violating a number of U.S. laws designed to prevent aid from going to countries and military groups committing war crimes.    https://truthout.org/articles/progressives-demand-that-biden-stop-greenlighting-the-massacre-of-palestinians/?

2024-03-01 As Outrage Over Gaza Grows, Biden Hides From Protests Amid High-Stakes Election      “A Democratic campaign that is scared of college campuses is not a campaign that can win given today’s coalitions,” said one journalist.

Public opposition to U.S. President Joe Biden’s support for Israel pushed more than 100,000 primary voters in the key state of Michigan this week to vote “uncommitted” instead of backing him, but while the Biden campaign brushed the protest votes off with promises to “listen to what folks’ concerns are,” the president is reportedly intent on avoiding contact with pro-Palestinian constituents as much as possible.  https://www.commondreams.org/news/biden-hiding-gaza

2024-02-12 Which Side Are You On?   “No matter what Biden does in whatever number of days, or years left for him on this earth, his fate has been sealed: He shall be remembered as the man who has enabled one of the worst genocides in modern history. Shame on anyone who supports or defends this brute.” —Ramzy Baroud, December 24, 2023.

Under capitalism’s laws, owning the means of production gives the capitalist class the right to all of the surplus value we workers create—and there’s no limit to how much wealth any one capitalist can accumulate.

There was a meme circulating on Facebook, “It’s 80,000 BC. You are immortal. The world is still frozen in an ice age. You decide to save $10,000 every day, never spending a cent. 82,021 years later, it’s 2021. You still don’t have as much money as Elon Musk.” That’s an example of how much surplus value they are allowed to accumulate on an individual basis.

But we have the ultimate power in our hands to stop them in their tracks by withholding our labor—rendering them helpless.   We must build and support our own workers’ party democratically controlled and run by the working class and dedicated to fighting for our interests—a party against war, environmental destruction, police repression, racism, and sexism. A party that stands for turning the ownership and control of the means of production and the surplus value our labor creates over to the world’s working class.

We have the means right now to build a Labor Party of our own that supports socialism and opposes all capitalist parties—a party that can win freedom, democracy, economic and social equality, and justice—a socialist world under the democratic control of the masses of working people.  https://www.socialistviewpoint.org/marapr_24/marapr_24_02.html

2024-01-29 Genocide Joe is no defender of democracy  Any number of voices in Washington have tried to spin the reality that is all too obvious to the rest of the world: Israel continues to violate human rights, and its violations grow more outrageous with every passing day. Yet both parties in Washington remain committed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu despite his belligerence, and none of them support either the international law or human rights principles adopted after the Second World War.  In that context, it is even more disingenuous to suggest that democracy is on the ballot this November. Democracy has no friends among the major parties’ candidates.

Last week, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced its interim ruling favoring South Africa’s legal challenge to Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The opinion, which Washington and Tel Aviv have spun to their benefit despite its scathing terms recognizing Israel’s actions as genocidal, should surprise no one. South Africa overcame its own legacy of apartheid more recently than any other state, and has international credibility to observes its similarities in the only remaining state in the world that continues to embrace it.  https://shahidbuttar.substack.com/p/genocide-joe-is-no-defender-of-democracy

2023-10-27 Letter to the Speaker of the House and President pro tempore of the Senate consistent with the War Powers Resolution (Public Law 93-148)    Dear Mr. Speaker:   (Dear Madam President:)   As I have reported previously, militia groups affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have perpetrated a series of attacks against United States personnel and facilities in Iraq and Syria.

In response to this series of attacks and continuing threats of future attacks, at my direction, on the night of October 26, 2023, United States forces conducted targeted strikes against facilities in eastern Syria.

I directed this military action consistent with my responsibility to protect United States citizens both at home and abroad and in furtherance of United States national security and foreign policy interests, pursuant to my constitutional authority as Commander in Chief and Chief Executive and to conduct United States foreign relations.

I am providing this report as part of my efforts to keep the Congress fully informed, consistent with the War Powers Resolution (Public Law 93-148).  I appreciate the support of the Congress in this action.

Sincerely,  JOSEPH R. BIDEN    https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/10/27/letter-to-the-speaker-of-the-house-and-president-pro-tempore-of-the-senate-consistent-with-the-war-powers-resolution-public-law-93-148-4/
