Republicans created an anti-climate “battle plan.”

Environmental Warning by Steven Donziger

[MEK Note: Not only are Republicans the problem, but the Corporate Democratic Party leadership gives only lip service to the real civilization and life destroying emergency that the ongoing Climate Catastrophe is! Both of the two major political parties answer to the same super rich and their military-industrial-media complex. Why would the super-rich destroy the world they basically own already. They won’t! Scientist say our plant can support about a half a billion people in a decent lifestyle sustainably. Get the picture, they intend to eliminate 7 billion+ people almost overnight and soon. Thanks to AI that is now very easy to do! The Covid-19 “so called pandemic” was a practice exercise for the real thing.]

I just learned that leading Republicans have created a 1,000-page plan to kill every regulation and law that addresses the climate crisis within the first 180 days of a new Trump Administration.

This plan might be one of the most horrifying things I’ve read in years.

Worse, the writing of the plan was funded with a $22 million grant from fossil fuel interests. The lawyer heading the project (Paul Dans) was part of the same Chevron team of legal thugs that detained me after we won the Ecuador pollution case.

All these strands of deceit, corruption, and power are connected. They just don’t want us to see it. But I see it – and I want everyone to see it, which is why I continue to speak out about the injustices Chevron and the oil industry continue to visit upon Indigenous peoples in Ecuador and other vulnerable communities around the globe.

A shocking article from The New York Times outlines the details of this new power grab. The Republicans plan to dismantle literally every regulation and law our government uses to address the climate crisis. This means every regulation across every agency in the federal government – including all clean energy programs that are part of the transition out of planet-destroying fossil fuels.

This is not just a greedy plan for a bunch of profit-hungry oil companies.

It feels like a suicide pact for humanity.

And we must join together to stop it.

If Trump or any other Republican gets to the White House in 2024, make no mistake about it – this radical plan will be implemented and the battle to save the planet could be lost.

They are calling this extremist battle plan Project 2025. It would “place more power in the president’s hands” and “outlines changes for nearly every agency across the government.”

The plan was written by the Heritage Foundation. This is the same far-right organization that has poured millions of dollars of “dark money” into several states to pass extreme voter suppression laws following Trump’s loss in 2020.

Their strategy is to shrink democracy so citizen action simply cannot be effective. They believe it is the only way to save the fossil fuel industry.

The frightening blueprint indicates a new Republican Administration in 2025 will:

  • Repeal Biden’s premier climate bill (the Inflation Reduction Act) which designates $370 billion to fund the transition to clean energy.
  • Close down the Department of Energy Office responsible for promoting green technologies.
  • Remove climate change as an issue “worthy of discussion” on the National Security Council.
  • Allow drilling inside the Arctic wilderness.
  • Declare that the federal government has an “obligation to develop vast oil and gas and coal resources” on America’s public lands.

Protecting the climate isn’t of course just a political issue. It’s also a human rights issue. It is terrifying to me that a large faction of Republicans and the fossil fuel industry are willing to dismantle even the modest efforts made by the Biden Administration to protect our environment.

My unprecedented private prosecution by Chevron was just a precursor to this wacky but frightening proposal. When the very government charged with protecting us turns its back on Earth Defenders and life itself, it allows extremist organizations like the Heritage Foundation and Chevron to push the boundaries past their breaking point.

This new Republican plan would put the lives of future generations at grave risk. It threatens the survival of thousands of species. Please work with us to help stop it by donating today.

As always, thank you so much for your support.

Together,

Steven Donziger

Steven Donziger is a U.S. human rights attorney who helped communities in Ecuador’s Amazon win a historic multibillion-dollar pollution judgment against Chevron for the dumping of billions of gallons of cancer-causing oil waste onto Indigenous ancestral lands. Since the judgment issued in 2013, Chevron has used dozens of law firms and 2000 lawyers to carry out a demonization campaign targeting Steven to send a message of intimidation to all environmental advocates. Steven served 993 days of detention at home and in prison after being prosecuted directly by a Chevron law firm in the nation’s first corporate prosecution; he still faces the threat of additional jail time after he appealed an order to turn over confidential information held by his Indigenous clients.
