Addiction Is Illness Drug usage
abuse is an addiction and mental illness. Local community
should provide medications to help those addicted to recover.
End Drug War
Destroy the profit driven criminal drug empire by
providing free drugs at community medical centers with offers to help end
addiction! End drug use incarceration!
Legalize Marijuana Legalize
marijuana use & cultivation for personal use, but severely limit corporate
control & promotion. Research hemp and its uses especially those
which can help alleviate environmental damage!
Pharma End Pharma
financial control of Medical Schools & Journals and government officials.
The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The
opposite of addiction is connection
“Put a rat in a cage and give
it 2 water bottles. One is just water and one is water laced with heroin or
cocaine. The rat will almost always prefer the drugged water and almost always
kill itself in a couple of weeks. That is our theory of addiction.
Bruce comes along in the ’70s and said, “Well,
hang on. We’re putting the rat in an empty cage. It has nothing to do. Let’s
try this a bit differently.” So he built Rat Park, and Rat Park is like heaven
for rats. Everything a rat could want is in Rat Park. Lovely food. Lots of sex.
Other rats to befriend. Colored balls. Plus both water bottles, one with water
and one with drugged water. But here’s what’s fascinating: In Rat Park, they
don’t like the drugged water. They hardly use it. None of them overdose. None
of them use in a way that looks like compulsion or addiction. What Bruce did
shows that both the right-wing and left-wing theories of addiction are wrong.
The right-wing theory is that it’s a moral failing, you’re a hedonist, you
party too hard. The left-wing theory is that it takes you over, your brain is
hijacked. Bruce says it’s not your morality, it’s not your brain; it’s your
cage. Addiction is largely an adaptation to your environment.
Now, we created a society where significant
numbers of us can’t bear to be present in our lives without being on something,
drink, drugs, sex, shopping… We’ve created a hyper consumerist,
hyper individualist, isolated world that is, for many of us, more like the first
cage than the bonded, connected cages we need.
The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The
opposite of addiction is connection. And our whole society, the engine of it,
is geared toward making us connect with things not people. You are not a good
consumer citizen if you spend your time bonding with the people around you and
not stuff. In fact, we are trained from a young age to focus our hopes, dreams,
and ambitions on things to buy and consume. Drug addiction is a subset of
that.”

End war on drugs: for legalization, treatment of
abuse
Greens call for an end to the “war on
drugs”, legalization of drugs and for treating drug abuse as a health
issue. The “war on drugs” has been an ill-conceived program that has
wasted billions of dollars misdirecting law enforcement resources away from
apprehending and prosecuting violent criminals, while crowding our prisons with
non-violent drug offenders and disproportionately criminalizing youth of color.

Nation is waking up to the end of the war on
marijuana
The silence on the illegal mass spying on
Americans by the NSA, and no doubt the CIA and other intelligence agencies, was
deafening. The lack of discussion about the legality of the drone program
showed once again the U.S. is a nation that violates the law rather than abides
by it. The failure to discuss the mistaken mass incarceration that is so
racially disproportionate was a missed opportunity as the nation is waking up
to the end of the war on marijuana.

Cannabis/Hemp is to be legalized
Cannabis/Hemp is to be legalized, regulated and
controlled like cigarettes and alcohol. Until this happens we advocate that
medical marijuana be made a prescription drug that doctors may prescribe to
their patients.

More drug counseling & treatment
We
call for legalization of industrial hemp and all its many uses.
- We oppose the
illicit activities of the international drug trade and the illicit money
laundering that often accompanies the drug cartels. - We call for a
revised view of the “drug problem” and an end to the “war on drugs,”
recognizing that after over a decade of strident law-and-order posturing,
the problems with hard drugs have only worsened. - We call for
expanding drug counseling and treatment for those who need it. - We believe
mandatory drug testing violates civil rights; therefore, we oppose
mandatory testing. - We favor
innovative sentencing and punishment options, including community service
for first-time offenders and “Drug Court” diversion programs. - We support
alternative sentencing for non-violent crimes (i.e. community service) and
guaranteed education within prison.

Replace Drug War with treatment and alternative
sentencing
- We support
decriminalization of “VICTIMLESS” CRIMES, for example, the possession of
small amounts of marijuana. - We call for
