2021-10-08 Merck’s New COVID Drug Is Making News — How Does It Compare to Ivermectin? In his latest video, John Campbell, Ph.D., compared ivermectin, whose use as a COVID treatment has been widely criticized by mainstream media, with Merck’s new COVID drug, Molnupiravir, which is garnering positive media coverage.
The peer-reviewed paper refers to ivermectin as the most studied “repurposed” medication globally, and notes that it is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and “classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an ‘essential’ broad spectrum antiparasitic, antibiotic, and has demonstrated broad antiviral activity against RNA viruses, including HIV, Zika, MERS and coronavirus.” “And of course, ivermectin also won the Nobel Prize in 2015,” Campbell said.
On effectiveness, Molnupiravir is lacking data. The only publicly available clinical data on Molnupiravir comes from a Merck press statement claiming the new drug is 50% effective against hospitalizations and deaths, when used as an early treatment. For ivermectin, using publicly available data, Campbell referred to one peer-reviewed study that pegs ivermectin’s effectiveness in early treatment at 62%, and an ongoing meta-analysis which shows ivermectin is 66% effective in early treatment and 86% effective as a prophylactic.
Using VigiBase, a WHO database on pharmaceutical safety data, Campbell showed that out of 3.7 billion doses given of ivermectin there have been only 5,693 reports of adverse events — far fewer, according to Campbell, than the number of adverse event reports associated with amoxicillin and ibuprofen, both widely used and considered safe. Comparable safety information for Merck’s Molnupiravir is not yet available, as trials and studies are still ongoing. But Campbell did raise concern about Molnupiravir’s mutagenic properties.
Ivermectin is exponentially cheaper than Merck’s new Molnupiraravir. The cost of a complete five-day course of Molnupiravir is $700 — or $70 per pill. That amounts to a 4,000% markup over what it costs Merck to make the drug. Citing 2013 prices provided by the WHO, Campbell said a five-day course of ivermectin — 10 3mg pills — costs $0.53. 2021-10-08 Reports of Serious Injuries After COVID Vaccines Near 112,000, as Pfizer Asks FDA to Green Light Shots for Kids 5 to 11 VAERS data released Friday by the CDC included a total of 778,685 reports of adverse events from all age groups following COVID vaccines, including 16,310 deaths and 111,921 serious injuries between Dec. 14, 2020 and Oct. 1, 2021.
This week’s U.S. data for 12- to 17-year-olds show: 21,298 total adverse events, including 1,284 rated as serious and 22 reported deaths. Two of the 22 deaths were suicides.
The most recent death involves a 16-year-old male (VAERS I.D. 1734141) who reportedly died from cardiac failure five days after receiving Pfizer’s COVID vaccine. Contra Costa County Health Officer Dr. Chris Farnitano today announced the criteria that will be used to lift the current indoor-masking order in our county:
* The county reaches the CDC’s moderate (yellow) COVID-19 transmission tier and remains there for at least three weeks;
* AND There are fewer than 75 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the county;
* AND One of the following conditions is met:
* 80% of the total population is fully vaccinated
* Eight weeks have passed since a COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for emergency use by federal and state authorities for 5- to 11-year-olds
When these criteria are met – which is project to be at the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022 – Dr. Farnitano will lift the local masking order, which requires everyone to wear face coverings in indoor public settings regardless of vaccination status. After the local masking order is lifted, unvaccinated residents will still need to wear masks in indoor public settings under the state’s face-covering order.

A second study from Qatar looked at actual infections among the nation’s highly vaccinated population, who mostly received Pfizer’s COVID vaccine.
Estimated effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2 infection was negligible for the first two weeks after the first Pfizer dose, increased to 36.8% in the third week after the first dose, and reached its peak at 77.5% in the first month after the second dose. Pfizer has consistently claimed the company’s own efficacy data demonstrate 95% efficacy against SARS-CoV-2, which was not observed in this study.
The researchers said effectiveness declined gradually, starting from the first month after the second dose, accelerated after the fourth month and reached a low level of approximately 20% in months 5 through 7 after the second dose.
Pfizer and its German partner, BioNTech, today asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to authorize their COVID vaccine for emergency use for children 5 to 11 years old.
“Per Pfizer’s Sept. 20 press release announcing the trial’s results, the trial didn’t show the vaccine reduced hospitalizations (which are basically non-existent in healthy children) or even mild cases,” Berenson said. 2021-10-07 How the Risk of COVID for Kids Compares to Other Dangers There were reports this summer of more children under 18 falling ill with COVID-19, and some pediatric hospital wards filling up, leading many to believe that the pandemic is now a serious threat to children, too.
But experts maintain that the risks most children face from COVID-19 are low, even with the Delta variant. “The risk in children has not changed with the new variant as far as we can tell,” Betsy Herold, a pediatric infectious disease physician at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, told me.
Herold estimates that less than 2 percent of children known to be infected by the coronavirus are hospitalized, and less than 0.03 percent of those infected die.

2021-10-06 Sweden, Denmark Pause Moderna’s COVID Vaccine for Younger Age Groups Citing Reports of Myocarditis Sweden will pause Moderna’s COVID vaccine for people under age 30, while Denmark said it will halt use of Moderna’s vaccine in people under age 18.
The Swedish health agency said it would pause the vaccine for people born in 1991 and later, as data pointed to an increase of myocarditis and pericarditis among youths and young adults who had been vaccinated, Reuters reported. “The connection is especially clear when it comes to Moderna’s vaccine, ‘Spikevax,’ especially after the second dose,” the health agency said in a statement. Earlier this week, the Swedish health agency said 12- to 15-year-olds would only get Pfizer’s COVID vaccine.
“In the preliminary data … there is a suspicion of an increased risk of heart inflammation, when vaccinated with Moderna,” the Danish Health Authority said in a statement.
Norway, which already recommends the Comirnaty vaccine for minors, reiterated Wednesday rare side effects could happen, particularly in boys and young men, and mainly after receiving a second dose.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved the use of Comirnaty in May, while Spikevax was approved for use in children over 12 in July, U.S. News reported.
Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle that can lead to cardiac arrhythmia and death. According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders, myocarditis can result from infections, but “more commonly the myocarditis is a result of the body’s immune reaction to the initial heart damage.”
Pericarditis is inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart that can cause sharp chest pain and other symptoms.
According to the the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, there have been 6,561 cases of myocarditis and pericarditis reported following COVID vaccines, with 4,885 cases attributed to Pfizer, 1,515 cases to Moderna and 161 cases to Johnson & Johnson’s COVID vaccine between Dec. 14, 2020 and Sept. 24, 2021. 2021-10-06 Canada Issues COVID Vaccine Mandate for Travelers 12 or Older on Trains and Planes Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday announced a nationwide COVID-19 vaccine mandate for rail and air travelers as well as staff. “Today we are fulfilling two of our main commitments — mandatory vaccination for federal employees and mandatory vaccination for travel,” Trudeau said.
Canada will also have a vaccine mandate for federally regulated workers in place by the end of the month, according to Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.
Trudeau said that by the end of October all travelers 12 or older on a plane or train within Canada must be fully vaccinated. 2021-10-06 Man Behind COVID Licking Hoax Sentenced to Federal Prison A San Antonio man on Monday was sentenced to more than a year in prison for claiming on social media that he paid someone with COVID-19 to go to area grocery stores and lick products.
A federal jury found 40-year-old Christopher Charles Perez guilty on two counts criminalizing false information and hoaxes related to biological weapons, according to a Department of Justice news release. Perez said the two messages he posted on Facebook were meant to deter people from shopping as he believed there were too many people at grocery stores. An FBI investigation determined that the threats were a hoax.

2021-10-06 At-Home COVID Tests Being Recalled Due to False-Positive Results In a statement, Ellume, the manufacturer of the tests, said, “In recent weeks, we noted an increased chance that Ellume COVID-19 Home Tests from specific lots may provide an incorrect positive result. Following a thorough investigation, we isolated the cause and confirmed that this incidence of false positives is limited to specific lots.”
According to Ellume, the company has worked with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to issue the voluntary recall and remove the affected at-home test kits from the market. Twitter censored Jessica’s obituary, because it attributed her death to vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia caused by the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine. Twitter’s fact-checkers — who have never spoken with their family to verify Jessica’s story — affixed “misleading” and “misinformation” labels to her obituary. VITT is a rare, and sometimes fatal, blood-clotting condition triggered by COVID vaccines.
On Aug. 29, Jessica went to a Seattle pharmacy to get her COVID vaccine and was told she would be receiving the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) shot. Jessica had no underlying health conditions, her husband said.
Jessica was “vehemently opposed” to taking the vaccine, “considering her stay-at-home mom status, state of good health and young age in conjunction with the known and unknown risk of an unproven vaccine,” Wilson said. But Jessica was pressured to get the vaccine due to a vaccine mandate at their child’s school requiring “room moms” who wished to serve in the classroom be fully vaccinated.
According to Ivancie, Jessica became ill after receiving J&J’s vaccine, and went to the emergency room at UW Medical Center. Jessica had been vaccinated and was suffering various severe symptoms. But attending doctors insisted on giving Jessica a COVID test and sent her home. They did not pursue any other treatment. 2021-10-05 Marc Pilcher, ‘Bridgerton’ Emmy Winner, Dies of COVID, Was Fully Vaccinated Marc Pilcher, the award-winning hair stylist and makeup designer who won an Emmy for his work on the hit Netflix show “Bridgerton,” has died of COVID-19 at the age of 53, weeks after winning the award.
According to the statement, Pilcher was “double vaccinated” and had no underlying health conditions. He took multiple COVID-19 tests and tested negative to make the trip to the U.S. for the Emmy’s ceremony and back to the UK.

“We’re adults and we know how to take care of ourselves,” Kelly Coyle, former state Department of Transportation employee, told The Olympian. “I don’t believe you should force someone to inject something in their body that they don’t want and lose your livelihood.” Coyle said she was forced into early retirement over Democratic Gov.
